SHOW ME HOW
But this time is always fun for me. When planning for the upcoming weekend, I feel like I have my pick of the litter in terms of which art openings to attend. And this week, I'll be blogging my way through my list of what's on the docket. On Thursday, November 6th, I'm definitely going to poke into Lisa Sette Gallery in Scottsdale. Naturally, Lisa Sette is one of my favorite galleries in town - I can always count on them to put together an excellent show. This month, they're featuring Eastern Promise: Contemporary Art from China. Say "Chinese art" and most of us are stuck on mental pictures of fine porcelain, ink landscapes on silk, and Jade ornaments. Sette aims to reprogram our assumptions about Chinese art by including 17 contemporary Chinese artists who work with the aforementioned traditional media but redirect the visuals to tackle present-day issues in mainland China. Specifically, the tension of capitalism meeting communism.
"Eastern Promise: Contemporary Art from China" runs from November 6th to January 3rd at Lisa Sette Gallery, 4142 N. Marshall Way in Scottsdale. Call 480-990-7342 or visit http://lisasettegallery.com/.
