Atreyu @ Marquee Theatre
Most of the audience that discovered the screamo-metalcore act Atreyu in 2003 (via MySpace, of course) has gone on to college, where their musical tastes have likely matured into more sensitive indie-rock types like Sufjan Stevens or Conor Oberst. Yet Atreyu is still chugging along. As David Wooderson famously said in the film Dazed and Confused, "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older; they stay the same age." And so, too, does Atreyu's fan base. The band releases a steady stream of angst-ridden albums, and the kids eat it up. There will always be an incoming batch of junior high school kids who are pissed at their parents for not buying them that Team Jacob T-shirt at Hot Topic and who want to use music as an outlet for their frustrations. So Atreyu will continue to sell albums. The group is headlining their "Congregation of the Damned Tour" with Blessthefall, Chiodos, Architects, and Endless Hallway. If you're planning on attending, don't forget to go heavy on the eyeliner.
