Steven Chung (a.k.a. DJ Tranzit) tends not to do anything small. The 31-year-old electronica artist crafts heavy-duty house-music tracks filled with huge beats and titanic turntablism tricks, and he has remixed some of the biggest EDM superstars ever (including Congorock, Wolfgang Gartner, and Dada Life). So it's apropos that Chung's throwing a ginormous release party celebrating his latest mix CD Crank the Volume! on Friday, June 15.
He's rented out the Madison Event Center, 441 West Madison Street, for the event and plans on filling the cavernous rave venue with the sort of signature blend of hard-hitting electro and pimp progressive sounds that fills the 22-track disc (including his high-energy debut single "Str!ke"). Chung, who also is about to release some work via German house label Plasmapool Media, won't be the only local DJ at the all-ages event, as longtime collaborators Kuntrol and Dooz will also perform. Also on hand will be such dope deckmasters as Freddy "Circle" Krems, Alpha1, Michael Elliot, Mijo, and Curtis Matthew.
A go-go competition also is planned for the party, and the femme fatale who shakes her moneymaker the best will land a shot at becoming a dancer for local EDM promoter Eventvibe along with a collection of Mixology watches. The first 50 people through the door, as well as those who bring one of Tranzit's previous mix CDs, will also receive free copies of Crank the Volume!
Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 before 9, $15 afterward. See www.relentlessbeats.com.
