The artist formerly known as John Cougar announced dates for his latest tour yesterday, and John Mellencamp will stop in Phoenix at Comerica Theatre on July 29.
The tour is in support of his upcoming album Plain Spoken, which will be released September 23.
The album is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's first traditional album since 2010's No Better Than This. Mellencamp also scored the "Southern gothic musical" Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, a concept album scored by Stephen King and featuring artists like Elvis Costello, Neko Case, and Kris Kristofferson singing Mellencamp's compositions.
Tickets go on sale Friday, September 19. Ticket-buyers will receive a free digital download of the album with ticket purchase.
The album has already garnered some advance praise. "The music looks back toward ... 'Blood On The Tracks,' with strummed guitars, brushes on the drums and neck-rack harmonica, and the words ponder trouble, power, love, God, freedom and mortality," wrote the New York Times.
