Despite the near-constant backbiting and backstabbing that seems to take place in the Valley's music scene, it's kinda cool that artists will band together to help out an old friend in their time of need. To wit: A slew of old-school DJs and music-scene veterans will gather on Sunday, December 25, at Crescent Ballroom, 308 North Second Avenue, for Merry X-Ray, a Christmas event benefiting Benjamin Walker, better known as Mr. Puma MC. Homegrown superstars Z-Trip and Fashen will headline the event, which will raise money to help cover the numerous medical expenses that Walker has incurred during his recent fight with cancer. Also on the lineup are Z-Trip's Bombshelter cohort Radar, as well as Tricky T and Mantis Claw, all of whom worked local clubs with Mr. Puma MC back in the day. Walker's latest project, Gentlemen Ether, also will perform. "Its been really overwhelming getting all this support from friends and other people in the scene that I used to perform alongside back in the day," he says. "I'm humbled." The show starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $15. Visit www.cres centphx.com.
