Welcome to your Woodstock '69 flash back! While you're getting naked and covering yourself in mud like a dirty hippie, don't forget to grab an empty coffee can and drum along to Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle, the best psychedelic '60s-sounding cult band to come out of the new millennium. Dillon, a renowned percussionist and vibraphonist who tours with both Les Claypool's Frog Brigade and Ani DiFranco, has crafted a hypnotic concoction of ambient jazz and Frank Zappa-esque etudes on the Go-Go Jungle's debut disc, Battery Milk (Hyena Records). There's "Harris County," with its vibraphone melody trickling over a groovy bass line; "GoGo's Theme," which brims with a super funky swagger that sounds like Galactic pumped full of Jägermeister; and "Broc's Last Stand," which contains a rhythm so erratic that the song seems to totally go off the rails, leaving the listener dizzy from the circular crescendo. So tune in, turn on, and run through the Go-Go Jungle, but remember: Don't take the brown acid.
