NBA All-Star Weekend 2009

If there's one thing that P-town won't be in short supply of this weekend, it's pro basketball players, as seemingly the entire NBA roster will be hanging in the PHX for the league's annual All-Star Game. Besides all the big ballers and shot callers, the Valley's also gonna be filled with various turntablists who'll be working countless record decks across the local scene for four nights straight, particularly in Scottsdale. For example, Phat Farm's throwing a crackalackin' kickoff on Thursday, February 12, at the Mondrian Scottsdale, 7353 East Indian School Road, features offers the boys from Silver Medallion and J-Nice (a.k.a. Shaq's personal DJ), who'll be dropping both electro and classic hip-hop. Amen Ra and M2 are also scheduled to spin. The party starts at 9 p.m. Call 480-308-1100. In the meantime, the W Scottsdale, 7277 East Camelback Road, has a seriously swank celebration going on all weekend. Former Fresh Prince cohort DJ Jazzy Jeff and Dirty Pretty's DJ Fashen will be on the ones and twos in support of Def Jam rapper Fabolous on Friday, February 13. The jams start at 7 p.m. and admission is $50-$100. Call 480-970-2100. Wrapping up the weekend will be the All-Star Grand Finale on Sunday, February 15, at Myst, 7340 East Shoeman Lane in Scottsdale, where both L.A.'s DJ Mark Da Spot and Miami's DJ LS One will be in the house. Doors open at 9 p.m. and admission is $100. Visit
