There's an infamous video on YouTube of iconic Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook "DJing" at Serbia's EXIT festival in 2006. And by "DJing" we mean twisting knobs on an equalizer like a coked-up hamster while the Tom Neville track "Just Fuck" plays. This revealing vid (and similar ones on YouTube) caused a raging slag-fest on the Interweb against Hook and other "celebrity DJs" for simply picking out music or using mix CDs for their sets. So will Hook pull similar shenanigans when visiting Homme Lounge on Friday, July 4? No way, says promoter William Fucking Reed. "After that incident, he was flamed quite heavily," Reed says. "Since then, he quickly put that to an end and actually mixes and DJs now. That's the reassurances I've received from his camp. I wouldn't fucking book him if it were otherwise." He also promises Hook will spin an "eclectic mix of classic and contemporary indie stuff" at the 4th of July Massive, which also includes sessions by Reed, DJ Nfin8, Kevin the Makeout Bandit, Sleazy Sean, and Pone Discos y Nico. Stop by to spot-check Hook's mixing skills or ask if he can sign your pristine vinyl copy of Unknown Pleasures. The music starts at 8 p.m., with a $5 cover before 10 p.m., $10 before midnight, and $15 thereafter. Visit www.going.com/peterhook for pre-sale tickets.
