The Insects, Mouse Powell and Afro Classics Wrap Up SxSW Tour Tonight at Hidden House
Our local music acts make one helluva trip come SxSW time. Aside from the drive to Austin itself, many of the musicians take the opportunity to spread their sounds along the southwest with various gigs along the way.
Then of course there's the actual music festival. Although March 18 marks the official last day of the SxSW event, the show goes on well after stage breakdown.
For hometown hip-hop heavy's The Insects, Mighty Mouse Powell of the Avenue of the Arts crew, and Los Angeles rappers Afro Classics, the trip back has included shows in Dallas and El Paso and will finally conclude with tonight's end-of-tour set at the Hidden House in Phoenix.
Mouse Powell dropped us a line from one of the many rest stops along the long road back to Arizona for a quick catch-up session. Check it out after the jump.
"It's been going great. So far we've been through New Mexico and Texas where we did the South by Southwest thing for a while, and it seems like people there really dig on what we're doing," Powell says.
This is Powell's first time visiting the festival, while The Insects and Afro Classics are SxSW veterans.
"I had never actually been to Austin before so the city itself was pretty wild," he says. "There are just so many people and really cool art and music going on. I think each one of us had our own little night where we drifted off and kind of got lost."
The Hidden House show marks not only the end of the tour, but also Powell's 22nd birthday bash. To celebrate, Powell will be performing a bunch of new tracks off of his upcoming EP, while live artist Dumperfoo paints along to The Insects beats.
