Catherine Vericolli and Ryan Champagne might've dubbed themselves The Lucky Bitches, but the truth is that they're quite the pleasant pair. Consider them to be goofballs to the third degree, as they named their DJ duo after a French & Saunders skit and incorporate silliness whenever possible into their weekly Wednesday night gig at the Palo Verde Lounge, 1015 West Broadway Road in Tempe. "There's not a lot of pressure here to pack the bar like other places, so we like having fun with the crowds or making crackheads dance to Madonna or whatever," Vericolli says. "We do it for fun and to introduce people to cool music." The pair specializes in "music you don't hear in bars," like dub reggae from such artists as King Tubby or Lee "Scratch" Perry, as well as soul rock, electropop, and other random cuts. "If you're gonna request Justin Timberlake or STP," says Champagne, "bring a buck and hit up the jukebox another night." The bitches begin at 10 p.m., with no cover.
