Tongue Tied's Daft Punk Tribute Party @ Apollo's Lounge
Didja get your mitts on Daft Punk's new album, Random Access Memories, yet? If not, your slow ass is certainly in the minority, since damn near everyone's streamed or pirat — er, bought a copy of the just-released 13-track gem birthed from the robotic loins of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo.
And the music-critic intelligentsia is heaping plaudits upon the pair. NME loved it, as did Idolator, Allmusic, and Rolling Stone. (Both Spin and Pitchfork gave it a "B," however.) There's been nothing but nonstop gum-flappery over exactly when and where Daft Punk will be touring, which (sadly) has resulted in scuttlebutt but no announced dates.
In the interim, one of the few sources for public love of Daft Punk will be Tongue Tied's Daft Punk Tribute Party on Saturday, June 1, at Apollo's Lounge, 5749 North Seventh Street. DJs Roya and Funkfinger, the pair behind the newly launched monthly indie/New Wave dance joint, will drop tracks and remixes from the French electro-house act's discography all night at the dive bar.
Copies of Random Access Memories and tickets to next month's performance by local Daft Punk tribute One More Time at the Crescent will be given away. The 2006 flick Daft Punk's Electroma also will play on a big screen, robot props and helmets will be available for high jinks, and Treasure Mammal "interpretive dancer" Dave Driscoll will be in the house.
They're gonna be celebrating starting at 9 p.m. Admission is $5 after 9:30 p.m. Call 602-277-9373.
