Earlier this week we remarked on the longevity of Grand Ave art-space the Trunk Space, which is celebrating eight years of DIY operation next week. Well, here's something to consider: This week, The George & Dragon pub, which has hosted many a punk rock show in its day, turns 17. That's only one year away from being able to blast that classic Alice Cooper anthem.

It's fitting that the staff at the G&D is celebrating with a night of rock 'n' roll on Saturday, March 31, with sets from Venomous Pinks, Asses of Evil, The Dark Hearts, and French Girls.

The event's page at AZPunk.com promises "great drink and shot specials all evening, guaranteed hipster sightings, and potential mayhem," which makes it one of our five shows to catch this weekend. Read on for more.

Friday, March 30:

B. Real @ 910 Live in Tempe

Back in February, our own Anthony Sandoval pointed out that despite yanking a gig in response to SB10 in May 2010, it appeared that B-Real of Cypress Hill would be returning to the Valley for a gig at 910 Live in Tempe. And lo and behold, it has come to pass.

Billed as the Lite It Up Tour, Mathmadix and other local acts will be opening for B-Real tonight in Tempe.

Loyal Wife @ Hard Rock Cafe

Serene Dominic chronicled the quest of Loyal Wife, comprised of former members of Before Braille and Art for Starters, to fund its debut album through Kickstarter. Tonight at the Hard Rock Cafe the fruits of their label will be revealed, and as a bonus, Rob Withem of The Foxglove Hunt and Fine China will be opening the show.

Saturday, March 31:

Heartless Bastards @Crescent Ballroom

In this week's issue, Eric Swedlund spoke with Heartless Bastards songwriter Erika Wennerstrom. "I just tend to like all different kinds of music and sounds, whether it's a quiet acoustic song or a Black Sabbath-inspired song," she says. "I just like the variety myself, and I feel like the inspiration that comes to me is very varied."

You can get a taste for that variety when the band performs at Crescent Ballroom on Saturday night.

Switch @ Brick

UK DJ David Taylor, was in town back in November, but it would seem he just can't keep away from Phoenix. He's bringing his dancehall-inspired riddims back for a repeat performance at Brick this weekend. Known as half of the duo Major Lazer (with Diplo), Switch's sounds are as vibrant as the technicolor animation that accompanies them.
