739 Arizonans Enrolled in Obamacare

A grand total of 739 Arizonans signed up for health insurance through the federal health insurance exchange set up by Obamacare.

Nationwide, 106,185 people have selected healthcare plans through the marketplace, according to statistics released today by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

This is the first release of enrollment numbers since the website was rolled out, on October 1.

Of those 106,185 people across the country who have picked a plan, fewer than 27,000 of them actually signed up through the federally run marketplace, while the rest signed up through state-run marketplaces. Arizona uses the federal marketplace.

The well-publicized troubles with the healthcare.gov website undoubtedly have affected the enrollment numbers. It's been reported that the Obama administrated expected 500,000 people to sign up in the first month.

In Arizona, applications were filled out for nearly 33,000 people, although most of those people didn't make it all the way to the final step of selecting a plan.

According to HHS stats, more than 20,700 of those people were determined to be eligible to enroll through the exchange, while more than 11,000 were actually found to be eligible for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program.
