Arizona Cardinals Stun Philadelphia Eagles -- Compliments of Larry Fitzgerald
The Kevin Kolb-less Arizona Cardinals stunned Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles with a 21-17 road victory in the city of brotherly love yesterday -- which never would have happened if wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wasn't straight-up nasty.
Aside from Fitzgerald's two touchdowns -- making him the franchise's touchdown leader with 70 career TDs in a Cardinals jersey -- the Cards' game-winning score never would have happened if Fitz's hands weren't magnets for footballs.
Down 17-14 with about two minutes to play, the Cards B-squad quarterback, John Skelton -- who got his second straight start thanks to Kolb's injured toe -- aired one out to Fitzgerald on third and 10. Fitzgerald laid out for the slightly overthrown ball, caught it, and nearly scored what would have been a 38-yard touchdown. He was ruled down at the one-yard line, setting up the Cards game-winning touchdown pass to Early Doucet.
Skelton threw for three TDs in the game, but was intercepted twice. He completed 21 of 45 passes -- including seven to Fitzgerald -- for 282 yards in the air and a QB rating of 82.8.
As for the Eagles -- a team many considered a Super Bowl contender at the beginning of the season -- the Cards' defense managed to hold the team to 289 total yards, only 123 of which were in the air.
Vick had another average-at-best performance, giving up two interceptions and throwing for precisely zero touchdowns.
Skelton's back-to-back wins while filling in for Kolb -- who lost six straight as the Cards' QB -- have raised the question of who should be the team's starting quarterback moving forward.
Cards coach Ken Whisenhunt, it seems, hasn't made a decision either way.
"I'll have to look at the film," Whisenhunt told reporters after the game. "Kolb has done a good job for us this season. They've both had some games get squirrelly on them, but we haven't won on the East Coast in forever, so I'm just going to enjoy this right now."
The Cardinals head to San Francisco to face the 49ers next Sunday. For more info, click here.
