Arizona Diamondbacks Crush Los Angeles Dodgers, 9-2
Paul Goldschmidt and the rest of the Arizona Diamondbacks crushed the Los Angeles Dodgers last night in L.A., 9-2.
Goldschmidt went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI, as Trevor Cahill pitched seven full innings, giving up both of the Dodgers' runs.
The Dodgers started out with an early lead via a sac fly by Matt Kemp that scored one run in the bottom of the first, but the D-backs took the lead again in the top of the second.
Cahill hit a ball to left that looked like it was about to be caught by the Dodgers' Carl Crawford, but he misjudged that, and the ball passed him -- giving Cahill one of the most unlikely triples you're going to see this year, which also scored two runs. A.J. Pollock followed up with a double to score Cahill, and put the D-backs up 3-1.
The Dodgers came within one run in the bottom of the third, as Crawford hit a solo home run, but the Diamondbacks started to pull away in the fifth.
Didi Gregorious reached base after Crawford dropped the fly ball while trying to transfer it from his glove to his hand, and Goldschmidt followed up with a homer to dead center. Now 5-2, Cody Ross followed Goldschmidt's homer with a homer of his own, to extend the lead to 6-2.
With a stress-free relief inning from Matt Reynolds in the eighth, the Diamondbacks added some insurance runs to their insurance runs, as Goldie hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth, as did Miguel Montero and Gerardo Parra.
Brad Ziegler finished out the game, in what definitely didn't qualify as a save situation, but did spur the creation of Fox Sports Arizona's "Z-Cam," which is useless, but awesome.
