While cruising around drunk, the last thing you want to crash your car into is a police cruiser. Enter 69-year-old Barry Lee Smith, who did precisely that while driving around Scottsdale drunk last night.

A 13-year veteran of the Scottsdale Police Department was on routine patrol just before 7 p.m. last night when he noticed a vehicle driving with its lights off.

Add to that, the vehicle made an illegal turn. But before the officer had a chance to pull the vehicle over, it crashed into his police cruiser.

The officer was OK, and he was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The dopey driver, Smith, was believed to be drunk, and he was taken to an area jail on suspicion of DUI.
