In honor of Cinco de Mayo, The Cancer Project has compiled a list of foods at Mexican restaurants, which after eating, could potentially cause more than just the standard day of ass-fire.
The Cancer Project did a study of several meals consumers can find at different Mexican restaurants -- many of which are fast-food chains found here in the Valley -- and found that some of the meals contain high levels of ingredients that the group claims creates a higher risk for cancer and other diseases.
According to The Cancer Project, many fast-food versions of Mexican cuisine contain "astonishingly high levels" of calories, fat, and sodium, as well as carcinogenic processed meats and high-fat dairy products.
These agents, according to the group, cause obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
To determine which menu items pose the greatest risk to consumers' health, the Cancer Project analyzed entrées from five leading Mexican fast-food and casual-dining restaurant chains.

According to the Cancer Project, the charbroiled steak nachos at Baja Fresh Mexican Grill is the worst of the worst when it comes to unhealthy Mexican meals.

The grilled fajita salad at Chevy's Fresh Mex is number two on the list, the chicken honey-chipotle chicken crispers at Chili's came in third, the pulled pork burrito at Qdoba Mexican Grill was fourth, and the ground beef burrito at Moe's Southwest Grill rounds out the top five.
The group says that dietitians evaluated each item based on specific nutritional data, including the item's calories, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. Ratings also reflect whether the product contains processed meats, linked to increased risk of colorectal cancer.
