Four Loko, a.k.a. "Blackout in a Can," Believed Responsible for Teen Car Wreck
A booze-infused caffeine drink, commonly known as "blackout in a can," is believed to be responsible for a car wreck in Mesa on Sunday, where a 19-year-old girl crashed her car into a tree after a night of drinking.
Lanae Cummings, 19, told police she had been playing beer pong before the wreck, only she replaced the beer with Four Loko, a.k.a. "blackout in a can."
Four Loko is stirring up all sorts of nationwide controversy after nine college students in Washington state were hospitalized after drinking too much of it. It's top-of-the-line drink, "Four Maxed," has as much alcohol as about five beers. In other words, it's pretty easy to get trashed drinking it -- which is apparently what happened to Cummings.
Police say after a few games of Four Loko pong, Cummings hopped in her car and blew through a T-intersection on Longmore road. She hopped the curb, hit a tree, and came to a rest against a house.

Nobody in the house was hurt, but Cummings was taken to the hospital with spinal fractures.
Police say there were no skid marks at the intersection, which indicates Cummings didn't even try to stop. It seems, when her only options were to go left or right at the intersection, Cummings just went straight -- into a tree -- without realizing it. Hence: "blackout in a can."
Cummings remains in the hospital and will likely be charged with driving under the influence.
