Joe Arpaio's 75th Workplace Raid: Three Employees of Home-Repair Company Arrested
For Sheriff Joe Arpaio's 75th workplace raid, deputies knocked over the Mesa headquarters of a company that repairs damaged homes.
The result: Three arrests.
Even with just three people arrested in this case, it still seems less pathetic than the four arrests in the 74th raid, of four cleaning ladies wearing matching lime-green uniforms in their mugshots.
Although several aspects of MCSO's anti-immigrant enforcement has been under scrutiny in the Melendres v. Arpaio case, that's not related to the workplace raids, which target the (overwhelmingly Latino) employees under state identity-theft and fraud laws.
One small thing we noticed is that the press releases used to brag that 100 percent of the hundreds of people rounded up in the workplace raids were found to be in the country illegally. Immigration status isn't mentioned in the latest MCSO press release, although it's kind of assumed at this point.
In this raid, MCSO deputies hit the headquarters of East Valley Disaster Services, which does home-restoration contracting. MCSO says deputies got information that "possibly 22" people got hired there with false documents. MCSO found that number to be more like seven, and three of these people actually were arrested.
"The company's owner has been very cooperative with Sheriff's investigators and assisted detectives during the arrests," MCSO's press release says. "Three suspects have been arrested and booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on charges of ID theft and Forgery."
