Jutrina Tillman, Mom Who Choked 5-Year-Old Over Christmas Presents, Pleads Guilty
The Phoenix mom who spent Christmas '11 choking one of her kids -- and threatening both of her kids with a butcher knife -- has pleaded guilty to a charge in the case.
Jutrina Tillman, who was 32 at the time, had been drinking that Christmas and was mad at her 5-year-old son for playing a video game he'd gotten as a present, court documents said.
She dragged him to her bedroom and started choking him, according to the cops.
The boy told police "that his mom put her hand around his throat and squeezed until he thought he was going to fall asleep and closed his eyes," court records said.
Tillman's daughter, who was 13 at the time, tried to break it up, but Tillman retrieved a knife from the kitchen, pointed it at her daughter's chest and said she'd kill her, according to the documents.
Tillman again went after her 5-year-old son, this time with the knife, as she was "screaming she was going to fucking kill him," court documents said.
While the boy tried to run out of the house, Tillman's daughter called 9-1-1.
"The 5-year-old told me he was really scared and thought his mom was going to hurt them really badly," the officer wrote in a probable-cause statement.
Tillman tried to run and hide at a neighbor's house, near 43rd and Southern avenues, but that neighbor wouldn't let Tillman in, and she was arrested.
Although Tillman was booked on charges of making threats, aggravated assault and child abuse, she ended up pleading guilty to disorderly conduct as part of a plea agreement.
Sentencing for Tillman -- who we'll mention was under investigation by Child Protective Services on suspicion of abusing her teenage daughter at the time -- is scheduled for April 15.
