Paul Babeu's Conversation With Suddenly Former Pinal County Sheriff's Candidate Steve Henry: Best Guess for How That Went Down
The above video (posted by a reader) is our best, hilarious guess as to how the conversation went between Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu and Chief Deputy Steve Henry, as Babeu essentially had to let Henry know he was reducing his shot at becoming Pinal County Sheriff to zero. You know, for the good of "the people."
Babeu, as our colleague Monica Alonzo reported this morning, dropped his Congressional bid, citing, uh, personnel issues at the Sheriff's Office. And then announced that he would be running for sheriff instead of his (metaphorically speaking) butt-boy Henry -- whose campaign website instantly was scrubbed from the Internet.
"The federal Office of Special Counsel has advised Chief Henry that because our office receives federal funds and Steve supervises those who are in control of federal funds, he is not able to run for Sheriff while serving as our Chief Deputy," Babeu said in a statement. "Chief Henry was left three choices, resign his position as Chief Deputy and run for Sheriff, withdraw his candidacy for Sheriff or transfer to a non-leadership position within our office where he would not supervise anybody who handles any federal funding. Forget the politics, none of these options are good to maintain the continued success of our Sheriff's Office.
Huh? But the bottom line is, Babeu's running for sheriff again, despite Henry's getting what was likely (at least before the sex scandal broke) the best endorsement he could get during his campaign for sheriff -- Babeu's.

This must have been a real awkward conversation Babeu decided (in his own best interests) he had to have with Henry, with Babeu explaining why the loyal Henry had to bogart running for the office of sheriff.
We can only imagine that it went down like the scene from the modern-classic movie Pulp Fiction above, with Babeu as Marsellus Wallace and Henry as Butch Coolidge.
