We just received a little bad news for Phoenix Coyotes fans -- team captain Shane Doan will NOT play in tonight's playoff game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Doan suffered an injury in game three of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs on Sunday night, after chasing a puck into the Red Wings zone, tripping over Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard, and crashing into the boards.
"[Doing] better, he will not play tonight," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett tells ESPN, after his team's pregame skate at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. "Hopefully we'll get him back in Friday."
The Coyotes aren't specifically saying the extent of Doan's injury, but it's likely to be a shoulder, or other type of upper-body, injury.
Yesterday, Tippett said Doan was day-to-day and that status hasn't changed as of this morning.
In the first two games of the series, Doan was without question the most physical player on the ice.
Doan had a goal and an assist in the first two games, plus 15 hits.
Vernon Fiddler, who left Sunday's game with a shoulder injury of his own, will replace Doan for tonight's game.
