The Pentagon has ordered all 2.4 million active and reserve members of
the military to receive a vaccine designed to protect them against a
biological anthrax attack.

Staff Sergeant Brady Melancon is one of more than 800 military
personnel at Luke Air Force Base who are getting the series of anthrax
shots. Giving the injection is Staff Sergeant Anthony Griffin.

Air Force Major Sonnie Bates is the highest-ranking officer to face a
court-martial for refusing to submit to the anthrax shots.

Jane Orient, a Tucson internist who heads a group called Doctors for
Disaster Preparedness, fears the mandatory shots are endangering our
troops and affecting our national security.

An F-16 gets some repairs at Luke Air Force Base, the training home for
pilots who fly the fighter planes. Many military pilots throughout the
country are choosing to leave the service rather than jeopardize their
health and their clearance to fly.

Production of the vaccine has been suspended because of problems at
the BioPort plant. But the military says it has millions of doses to use in
the interim.

Schuyler McCorkle, an airline pilot and former major in the Arizona Air
National Guard, retired from the military rather than submit to the anthrax
vaccine.
