Eight months ago, Tempe-based artist and psychotherapist (and self-titled psychologartist) Peter Christenson anonymously sent 10 disposable cameras with instructions to shoot 27 photos and submit the finished, undeveloped product in a disclosed drop box.
And tonight, the experiences and viewpoints from each participant in the "10 Cameras Project", including a nurse, an economist, a few teachers, and a poet, are on display at Artspace in Scottsdale.
Eight months ago, Christenson sent out an international call for bartered installations to pair with each developed set of photographs.
Each of the 10 photographers (including Julie Anand, Dan Collins, Matt Garcia and New Times contributor Tania Katan) was partnered with an installation artist (including Kathy Nakagawa, Jen Urso, Bucky Miller, Ellie Richards).
Christenson says the pairs then created a connection between the two pieces of work; the idea deriving from the the 1960s fluxus philosophy, which can combine several art forms based on sociological and philosophical ideas.

"Sometimes it feels like these spaces are pretentious and unapproachable and I don't want that," Christenson says. "I want people to feel welcomed and enjoy the process and for there to be discussion and exchange in the space."
Art Space at Optima Camelview Village in Scottsdale was bartered to Christenson as a use for the project, which aligned with his philosophies behind the show to unite community and senses of value.
10 Cameras Project will be at Art Space, 7177 E. Rancho Vista Dr., at Optima Camelview Village March 25 through April 11.
