Author, poet, and ASU Regents professor of English and American Indian Studies Simon Ortiz will share his nationally acclaimed work with the public in honor of National Poetry month. The free afternoon event takes place Monday, April 14, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. inside the Two Water Circle amphitheater as Scottsdale Community College. "Tasting Colors and Hearing Scents: Creativity and the Science of the Senses"

Join neurologist and author Dr. Richard E. Cytowic as he discusses the neurological condition of intertwined senses, known as synesthesia, and how it translates into creativity. This free talk, happening Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m. inside the SMoCA Lounge, is presented in conjunction with the museum's current exhibition, "The Five Senses." April Showers Bring Bow-Wowers

Tempe's Mill Avenue District is holding its final Pop-Up Pooch Park, Thursday, April 17, with the theme "April Showers Bring Bow-Wowers." This free four-legged event starts at 5 p.m. at Hayden Square Amphitheater. Pet owners and dogs can socialize, enjoy live music from Laura Walsh and Teneia, and get their photos taken in the free photo booth. Featured animal rescues at this event include Lost Our Home, AZ Humane Society, New Hope Cattle Dogs, Pet Paradise Resort, and the Doggie District Pet Resort & Training Center.
