Okay, it's officially May now -- five months into the year and Tax Day is well behind us. Hopefully your refund has already arrived, but don't feel like you have to spend it all just yet. We've got three events to keep you entertained and cultured without requiring you to dip into those government-given funds. So schedule your week, cash that check, and probably buy something pretty for your mom.

Sometimes art imitates other art. And no, we're not talking everyone and their mom trying to emulate iconic pieces of work. To see what we mean, join librarian Abigail Nersesian during the Art Lovers Book Club in the Lemon Art Research Library at the Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 North Central Avenue, on Wednesday, May 6, at 11 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. and Friday, May 8, at 2 p.m. The group will discuss The Painted Kiss by Elizabeth Hickey, which was inspired by Gustav Klimt's The Kiss. Visit phxart.org to register and for more information.
The best poetry is natural, from its genesis to its delivery. But the poetry presented during Organic Poetry Second Friday will be more than natural -- it will be organic. And presented alongside the paintings of Joe Montano III. This poet-painter will present his newest works at The Firehouse Gallery, 1015 North First Street, on Friday, May 8, starting at 8 p.m. The event is free, but donations are encouraged. Get inspired to pursue your dreams after hearing two local entrepreneurs discuss how they found success at CEO Spotlight in the Hive on the second floor of the Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 North Central Avenue, on Wednesday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. Fashion designer Tiffe Fermaint and artist Macy McKenny will share their experiences of launching out on their own and achieving their goals.
