Goodbye, Melrose Curve. Hello, Roosevelt Arts District.

After five years, one of Seventh Avenue's sweetest vintage shops, Antique Sugar, is packing up its bags and setting up shop in downtown Phoenix. The retro retailer will be relocating to a newly renovated 1950s office building that it's set to share with a barcade and architectural firm at 801 North Second Street.

Antique Sugar's new digs will offer nearly 2,000 square feet of store space, giving shoppers access to a large inventory of vintage threads and accessories for men and women.

When asked about the reasoning behind the move, Antique Sugar co-owner Sarah Bingham told Jackalope Ranch that it was "a culmination of things." The owner and manager of Antique Sugar's current location, the same building that houses Zinnias At Melrose at Seventh Avenue and Indian School Road, is based out of New York, which Bingham's says posed numerous problems when it came to maintenance.

The new location on Second Street, however, is owned by Bingham's former boss, local founder and owner of Common Wall Media, Chuckie Duff. So with Duff repurposing a new space near Roosevelt Row and Antique Sugar's current lease being up at the end of March, Bingham and her business partner Annamarie Sanchez decided to make a change.

"[Plus] we kind of wanted to be downtown when we started, so it's just like going home," Bingham says.

Antique Sugar will remain open at Seventh Avenue through the last weekend of March. Even after the doors close, the store plans to keep a small vendor booth inside Zinnias at Melrose. The new location at Second Street is set to open Friday, April 3.
