If you're looking to pick up a Christmas present for the art lover in your family, you might want to try your luck this Saturday at Art Intersection's second Annual Silent Auction.

With some of the starting bids are as low as $60 and immediate purchase prices in a variety of price ranges, the show brings the auction format (usually reserved for people with money to burn) to a much more accessible level for anyone interested in buying art.

The Silent Auction is the primary fundraiser each year for the relatively new gallery. The works in the show have been donated by artists who all have some connection to the space -- either they have shown in one of the three gallery rooms or they have taught classes in one of the learning environments (there is a darkroom on-site along with a lab for digital imaging).

Most of the pieces are photographs, which makes sense given the focus of the gallery itself; however, there is also a selection of letterpress prints that are to-die-for. With over 50 participating artists, including photographers Anna Strickland, Stan Klimek, and Michael Lundgren, there's a variety of work all of a very high caliber.

Of course the artwork is also lovely to enjoy in the gallery even if you don't plan on buying, but supporting a local art space isn't the worst thing you could do either. Only a few of the pieces have been purchased already, so there is ample time to get your hands on something good (and trust us, it's pretty much all good).

The 2nd Annual Silent Auction will take place on December 1st from 5pm to 8pm. Before then, you can visit Art Intersection in person or view the artworks digitally on the web. You may place bids or purchase pieces for the'buy-it-now' price prior to the auction (through the 30th) by calling the gallery at (480)361-1118 or emailing [email protected].
