One new idea for every day in 2011. We're talking big, small, local, international, in action and on the drawing board. Here's today's -- what's yours?

With the help of Artsteps, gallery spaces and their exhibitions are about to get a little more virtual.

A few months ago, Google launched its very democratic Google Art Project, which allows users to virtually tour 17 prominent museums around the world.

The team behind

Artsteps is hoping to create a similar atmosphere of online art viewing, but in everyday (virtual) galleries with uploaded artwork from around the world.

On a basic level, the web-based program allows members to create virtual, 3D spaces (that could potentially resemble their own galleries) and upload their own artwork to model on the walls and in cases.

The virtual exhibitions can then be viewed on the main website or can be embedded into websites and blogs. There's also a community forum for exhibitions to be rated and discussed.

For more information, or to start creating your own virtual exhibition, check out the Artsteps website.
