Every time a politician calls himself maverick, the ghost of Barry Goldwater likely scoffs. No one could buck the party line like the one-time presidential candidate and Arizona native. Though he passed away in 1998 at the age of 89, Goldwaters legacy as a five-term state senator still looms large.
Arizona Jewish Theatre Company presents a staged reading of the play Mr. Conservative: The Story of Barry Goldwater, which explores the limited government champion's ups and downs as the political spectrum shifted during his career.
Penned by Ben Tyler and directed by David Barker, the performance features Kim Bennett as Goldwater and offers a preview of its upcoming full production in May 2012 coinciding with Arizona centennial celebrations.
