Mykel Sane and Rusty Workman say they opened Black N Blue Rockstar Clothing & Accessories because Phoenix needs it. The newest addition to downtown Phoenix's Fifth Street (just south of Roosevelt Row) is what the owners describe as a one-stop shop for all things cool -- vintage duds, edgy haircuts, and tattoos, too.

The bungalow space the boutique occupies at 906 North Fifth Street is divvied among three businesses. Black N Blue is in the front, and Space Magic Tattoo and Ultra Violet Salon are toward the back.

The vintage clothing shop's owners describe its look as classic American rock 'n' roll, which isn't surprising considering the longtime friends play in a band called Dead White and Blue and dig the vibe of Los Angeles rocker fashion outpost Forgotten Saints.

Their stock is true to that aesthetic with original-run band T-shirts (no reproductions here, folks), Levis, and western shirts. Price-wise, the loot ranges anywhere from $1 to $1,000, and everywhere in between.

The duo plans on starting up an in-house clothing line soon -- and adding to their roster of local designers. Currently, they carry lingerie by Kelly Calabrese, but they're looking into expanding that section and entering into design collaborations with other Arizona fashion designers.

Designer John Varvatos, who famously opened one of his stores in the former location of famed New York punk rock club CBGB, is also on their list of designers they're working to carry.

Aside from the clothing, Black N Blue also will play host to art and music events in conjunction with upcoming First Fridays. Plans include bringing in bands to play on a soon-to-be completed stage in the shop's backyard, displaying work from local artists in the boutique, and having DJs serve as a musical welcoming committee on the front porch.

Keep tabs on the store and its haps at the Black N Blue Facebook page or by calling 602-465-3525.
