Armstrong says he actually likes to wake up early to watch and trade the markets (he's a registered investment adviser), and when he's not at his day or night job, he's doing his best to balance his friends, girlfriend and family.
A few months ago, Armstrong was looking for a night job and his roommate connected him with the PCL general manager, Sonny (who they call "Soncat"). "I knew it would be a good fit," Armstrong says. "I guess the timing was just right."
Armstrong took a break to dish on bouncer life, misconceptions and the last crazy he threw out of the Pussy Cat Lounge ...
Best part of the job:
The people I meet. Every night I meet tons of new people, and so many different types of people -- it's great. And of course the girls that flash us ... Yeah, I like that too.
Biggest misconception about bouncers:
A lot of people think that the door guys are jerks or that we go on power trips ... You have to understand that there is a certain amount of guests that can safely fit into the club, and our job just happens to require us to regulate that. Our ultimate goal is to provide a safe and fun environment.
Last crazy night:
There was this one guy that we removed from the bar because he was too intoxicated. He had hit a staff member and was completely belligerent. He was in the street yelling that he was a "gangster disciple" and wanted to fight the entire staff. The police pulled up and within two minutes he was bawling like an 8-year-old school girl.
Worst part of the job:
Late hours. Many nights I don't get home till 4 a.m., it's tough to have productive days following the long weekends.
What's on your belt?
I have a flashlight for IDs. [PCL] is a place where people come to dance and have a good time. We don't really run into the problems a lot of other clubs have; we show everybody respect and for the most part it's reciprocated.
What's the difference between PCL and places in Tempe/Phoenix?
PCL is an upscale lounge. We have great DJs sThursday through Sundays, and we're launching a new Monday night event which we're all really excited about. I can't say too much about it... Just be there before midnight.
