Attention geeks and nerds of the Valley: Don't you dare stuff your Boba Fett or Batman outfits into the closet just yet.
Halloween may be in the rearview, but officials from the City of Tempe are looking to feature a few folks in fantastic-looking costumes for a special video shoot taking place next week.
The city will be filming the trailer for next year's Geeks' Night Out on Tuesday, November 13, and is need of plenty of snazzy-looking costumed nerds.
According to a press release from city spokesperson Kris Baxter-Ging, a video crew from Tempe's Channel 11 is seeking "robots, costumed characters, inventors with gadgets and, really, just about anything with a science bend" to participate in the shoot.
Baxter-Ging states that this year's trailer for Geeks Night Out, the annual event that takes place every February at Madcap Theatre as a part of the city's Geek Week, will "pay homage to the '50s B-movie." As such, it will be titled "Invasion of the Geeks."
Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell will also be on hand to participate in the video shoot and will star in the trailer, which will be shot outside of city hall on Fifth Street. His predecessor, former Mayor Hugh Hallman (who's considered to be a pretty big geek himself) participated in last year's GNO trailer, including dressing like Darth Vader and strolling around Mill Avenue while waving a lightsaber.
Heck, he even "nicked" one other castmember in her leg with the fictional Jedi weapon, as you can see in the clip below.
There's no word from Tempe City Hall on if the current mayor is any better at wielding a blazing laser sword.
Those who have that particular afternoon off from work and is down to don their costume and participate should report to Tempe City Hall at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13. The video shoot commences an hour later. The video is expected to be posted sometime in January and next year's edition of Geeks' Night Out takes place on February 21.
Per Baxter-Ging, anyone who e-mails her and registers before November 8 can not only score free parking at the city hall garage but could also potentially place "key roles" in the trailer. However, registration isn't a requirement to participate in the trailer shoot.
The filming of the Geeks' Night Out trailer takes place from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, at Tempe City Hall. Participation is free.
