Everybody's favorite holiday debacle comedy "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" will be showing during Civic Space Park's PJ' s in the Park event Friday, December 7.

The Griswolds (who recently reunited for an Old Navy ad) will be shown in all their chaotic glory right after a screening of the Christmas classic "Polar Express."

Those in the nonprofit organization Downtown Phoenix Partnership and Councilman Michael Nowakowski's office organized the free event. It begins at 6 p.m. with "Polar Express." "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" will kick off shortly after at 8 p.m. with free holiday cookies and hot chocolate, which is a definite plus given the recent dramatic drop in evening temperatures.

PJ's in the Park was created with the idea of having an event for families around the downtown area according to T.J. Penkoff, Recreation Coordinator.

"We wanted to have something for families and kids because we typically have events for the college students around Downtown," says Penkoff, adding "expect a visit from Santa handing out special gifts as well."

The movie screen, which Penkoff says was the most expensive part of the event, is being supplied by Councilman Nowakowski's office.

If you're not familiar with Civic Space Park, it houses the giant jellyfish looking light, aka public art piece titled "Her Secret Is Patience" by Janet Echelman, next to the ASU Downtown campus at 424 N. Central Ave.
