Alto Arizona recently announced that Cornel West - author of social-science tomes, Race Matters and Keeping Faith: Philosophy and Race in America - will be speaking at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 2, at the North High School Auditorium, 1101 East Thomas Road.
In a program titled "How We Got Here: Historical Roots of SB1070," the Princeton University professor will lecture and be part of a panel discussion hosted by Puente Movement and The National Day Labor Organizing Network.
Much like William Julius Wilson and Henry Louis Gates, West is one of America's foremost contemporary thinkers and commentators of the human experience, especially when it comes to African-American culture following the 1960s civil rights movements.
Even if you aren't picking up your just-enlightened brains off the auditorium floor after the lecture, you're pretty much guaranteed to hear some interesting and different takes on the controversial bill.
