This Friday, Dulce Dance Company will debut Para Tus Ojos, a series of newly-choreographed movement pieces that seek to engage the audience in new ways. For starters, the performance will take place throughout several of the cavernous rooms in the Icehouse.

"We wanted to make the audience feel that they're actually going through a journey with the performers," says artistic director Candy Jimenez.

The non-traditional space at the Icehouse was a huge inspiration for Jimenez, who says she noticed the light streaming into the Column room one afternoon and immediately saw movement. One of the pieces in the show was actually created specifically for the Cathedral room, utilizing the particularities of the architecture.

Though Jimenez did most of the choreography herself, associate artistic director Liliana Gomez, performer Whitney Waugh, and visiting performer Pamela Pietro all contributed to the show as well. Pietro, who hails from NYC, will premiere a new solo work for this event that promises to be a very intimate experience (we don't want to give too much away, but you'll want to check your claustrophobia at the door).

Pre-show entertainment will include drinks, fashions by George Johnson, and live music. After the performance, Dulce is raffling art and gift certificates to fundraise for the company. For a full list of participating artists and businesses, visit the Facebook event page.

Para Tus Ojos will begin at 8 p.m. this Friday, May 10, but you're not going to want to miss the pre-show events, which start at 7:15 p.m.. Tickets (which include both pre and post-show celebrations) are $15 and can be purchased here.
