October is here, the weather is cooling down (for the time being), and it's time to get started on a few new projects. And don't think the opportunities are few -- here are five: 

1. Do Your Part: A Community Painting Day with Jenny Ignaszewski
This Sunday, October 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., local artist Jenny Ignaszewski is inviting the community to help her with a mural on Sixteenth and Edgemont Street as a part of the Calle 16 project. ​ Ignaszewski says paint and supplies will be available, but that any paint donations will definitely be accepted. 

2. Artists and Poets Wanted for the Seventh Avenue Streetscape
The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture's looking for local artists and poets for its eighth annual 7th Avenue Streetscape exhibition. Two-dimensional work from three artists and poems from three poets will be selected for a yearlong public art display on the art panels at Glenrosa Street and Seventh Avenue. Visual art submissions will be accepted through November 14 and poetry submissions will be accepted through November 7. Selected submissions will be awarded $900. 3. Grab Studio and Gallery Space on Mill Avenue 
Montage, Mill Avenue's newest workshop/gallery/studio is looking for local artists to create, show, and sell their work in a shared space in downtown Tempe. Applications from emerging and established painters, photographers, jewelry designers, assemblage artists, and more are currently being accepted by the Downtown Tempe Community. 4. Audition for Pastorela
New Carpa Theater is casting for Pastorella this Thursday, October 13, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.. The theater company is looking for 15 to 20 actors of all ages, races, and genders. To make an appointment, call (623) 252-2772 or email [email protected]. Auditions will be held in the Herberger Theater Center, 222 East Monroe Street Phoenix, in downtown Phoenix

5. Contribute to ASU's Some Assembly Required 
Some Assembly Required is an exhibition of student and community artists that will be located in the West Annex of the ASU Art Building. Exhibition organizers are accepting two- and three-dimensional artwork from ASU students and community members that will be assembled to create a larger art piece. Submissions, including artist name, title, medium, and dimensions of the work must be sent to [email protected] by October 28. More information here
