We sincerely hope that you've got a reliable A/C tech on speed dial, just in case your unit suddenly breaks down. You're really gonna need that bad boy in good working order and constantly blowing frosty air in the months ahead, especially when temps go north of 110 or higher (!!!) starting this weekend.
Common sense might dictate staying indoors as things get extra brutal outside during June and onward, but if acting like a Hoarders-esque shut-in gets tiresome, parties in and around certain Metro Phoenix pools and waterparks can offer oases of shade, some hot sounds, the chance to get wet while looking (and staying) cool, and maybe a chilled cocktail or two. Besides the usual pool party fun at destinations like Maya, El Santo, and Spanish Fly, here are five such events happening this month.

Mark-Taylor Summer of Love Parties When we dropped by one of the many "Summer of Love" poolside extravaganzas at Mark-Taylor upscale apartment complexes in 2012, the party machine had been cranked up to 11 as a five-alarm rager was in progress. Foam noodles were getting waved around like glowsticks as a local DJ loaded up his sound system with Top 40 favorites, the over-21 crowd was sampling suds and spirits, and an excess of bikini-clad booty-shaking was transpiring both in and out of the water.
We expect the same sorts of scenes will unfold throughout the summer after the Mark-Taylor folks commence this year's "Summer of Love" series at noon on Saturday, June 15, at the Borrego at Spectrum property in Gilbert. Parties will take place virtually every Saturday through mid-September (except for Independence Day weekend) and will include beats via DJ Paul, food from Dos Gringos, and free drinks from Crescent Crown. One attendee at each event will also be awarded the title of "Uber Pool Partier" and score access to a VIP section, a prize pack, and a free ride home (details on how to win can be found via Facebook).
And if you miss out on the launch, check out the festivities on June 22 at San Lagos in Glendale and on June 29 at The Regents in Scottsdale. Start times vary. Admission is free.
Summer Groove at W Scottsdale Hotel The WET Deck at the W Scottsdale tends to be a pretty popular place on weekends. That's doubly true in the hotter months during its weekly Summer Grooves event, when those seeking relief often make use of the pool.
The Saturday afternoon events, which run from noon until 5 p.m. through September, include a soundtrack generated by such W resident DJs as Knick Knack, Soloman, or Aaron Taylor, as well as waitresses whisking over summertime snacks and seasonal specialty cocktails to slake your thirst and satisfy the palate.
Admission is $10 for those who aren't registered to stay at the hotel. The VIP areas, daybeds, and poolside cabanas are available for reservation for an additional cost. Call 480-970-2101 for full details.
Swim Social at the Saguaro Hotel You won't witness any gorgeous mermaids frolicking around in the Saguaro's pool as they did during the hotel's Swim Social events last summer, although there should be plenty of other flavors of eye candy about, mostly of the well-heeled sort sporting Prada or Jean Paul Gaultier bathing suits.
The Socials still take place every Saturday and Sunday afternoon around the azure waters of its swank swimming facilities and offer "music, cocktails, and lounging" via local DJs invoking ambient and chill grooves, an array of high-end adult beverages and mixed drinks from the bar, and other "Technicolor adventures." Poolside food service is also available from in-house restaurant Distrito.
The events run from noon until 6 p.m. each day. Admission is free, but big spenders might want to take advantage of special Swim Social packages that run from $89 to $189 and feature such perks as pitchers of sangria and access to cabanas.
The Beat's Summer Pool Party Tour After spending their weekdays slaving over a hot mic, the jocks of Metro Phoenix hip-hop radio station 101.1 The Beat plan to spend a good chunk of their Saturday afternoons reigning over the swimsuit-clad crowd at any of the six different pool parties happening at a variety of apartment complexes around town.
As DJ Villin and other selectors drop hip-hop hits, free food will be available for munching (be sure to forget that old wives' tale about waiting an hour before diving back in) and giveaways and shwag will be handed out. The latest shindigs are scheduled to go down on Saturday, June 15, at Ashton Pointe Apartments in Avondale, and on Saturday, June 22, at the Bayside Apartments in North Phoenix. Most of the parties run from noon to 2 p.m. (A complete schedule for each event is available on the 101.1 website.) Admission is free. Night Splash at Golfland Sunsplash Nighttime 101.5 Jamz personality JD has certainly gotten into any number of interesting adventures while doing his job (like playing flip cup recently against Steve Aoki where he was schooled quite handily by the superstar), including spinning up sounds during live remotes at several editions of Night Splash at the Mesa waterpark every summer.
JD will be doing the DJ thing on the turntables from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, while swimmers of all ages get in an evening slide session at Golfland Sunsplash. Tickets are $13.88 per person and must be purchased at the park.
