Just south of downtown's colorful, in-vogue strip, Roosevelt Row, sits GROWop, a beautifully maintained historic house engulfed by a well preserved community garden. This little gem harbors the corner of Roosevelt and Sixth streets, where Joshua Hahn and Kenny Barrett began their non-profit community garden and vintage fashion boutique.
Hahn, owner and operator, is the epitome of a "sharply dressed man." Each piece of Hahn's apparel is strategically coordinated to reflect on his "duck-hunter chic" style. Paying tribute to his hunter-esque style, Hahn incorporates the Portland collection into his daily garb.

What is the last item of clothing you purchased? An arrow vintage, tie-pin, which I love. It's actually something that is going to be super popular for spring, which I'm really excited about.
What sort of fashion do you create? For myself, I create very classic American looks, but with modern twists. So, if I wear plaid or flannel, for instance, instead of pairing it with something that's rugged, I'll pair it with something that is super clean and tailored to give it more of a formal look. It's like having this masculine look but having it tailored and fitted to make it clean and modern.
What's the last thing you designed? I'm more of a fashion curator. I curate every time I'm at my shop, whether it's with customers or merchandising, it's pulling pieces together to make a certain look or lifestyle. I pull ideas of fashion and design together.
What's your favorite thing you've ever curated? Introducing the Portland Collection to GROWop as well as downtown Phoenix. It's the special collection by Pendleton that's super exclusive to specialty retailers and isn't available even within their own stores. I'm curating as a buyer of the new product for the shop and there will be more to come.
Can you tell us a little bit about your own style? It's kind of like these old, manly ideas of fashion mixed with a more fitted, kind of modern more tailored look. Borrowing from mountain/farm/rugged looks and feels but then placed in a city setting.
What's your favorite item of clothing in your closet? Part of the current Portland Collection. I have this awesome rust and tan plaid Anorak, which is my favorite piece right now.
What's a fashion trend you can't stand? UGG's with a tank-top and shorts and/or a fully layered winter outfit with sandals. I can't stand those.
Give us a childhood memory of you and your clothes Ever since I can remember I always had to pick out my own clothes. I would always get pissed at my mom for picking out bad outfits. She had good taste for boy clothing, but I was very, very strong on how it looked, what clothes I wore, and how I did my hair.
What do you like to accessorize with? I definitely like to layer. Whether it's a tie to finish off an entire outfit, the right kind of shoes in an outfit, or a third piece in an outfit -- a jacket, a tie or a scarf, something that takes a plain old outfit into something better.

What's your piece of fashion advice for Phoenix? To take a little bit more of a risk. Mixing colors or going monochromatic and just owning it. Don't be timid about dressing up. I always hear, "I don't know where to wear that," just wear it. Fashion is a statement, it doesn't matter where you're going. You can wear a dress to go grocery shopping, it doesn't need to be a formal ball to wear your Sunday best. Pull it together and just own it.
