Heard Museum North Scottsdale will close Saturday, May 31, according to a news release from Heard that went out early Wednesday afternoon.

The museum, located at The Summit at Scottsdale, will vacate the space on that date, when its lease expires.

"The facility was originally designed and constructed to be operated during a period of greater economic prosperity," the news release reads. "Today, the current configuration is not conducive to long-term sustainability."

The museum, which has been open for 15 years, originally was located at El Pedregal Festival Marketplace and moved to The Summit in 2007. Heard North includes two exhibit galleries, a cafe, and a museum shop. The galleries will close April 1. The cafe and shop will close May 1.

Upcoming scheduled events will continue as planned. These include the Fashion Flash Sale on Sunday and Monday, January 26 and 27; Nights at North on Wednesday evenings from January 29 through February 19; Heard Museum Guild Short Course: Southwestern Tribes, Mondays, March 10 through 31; and the Spring Shop Sale, which runs Friday, April 4, through Sunday, April 6.

"We greatly appreciate the support of our partners, including the city of Scottsdale, the Summit's owner, Donohue Schriber, and major private donors," Heard Museum director and CEO James Pepper Henry (Kaw/Muscogee Creek) said in the release, adding that Heard plans to continue to work with the City of Scottsdale in the future.
