Tuesday nights at Skeptical Chymist have an academic ambience. The Irish Pub Quiz features European beer specials, but everything else about the evening is right out of the schoolhouse.

During the Scottsdale pub's weekly trivia night, there are strict time limits, no cell phones, and some serious brain teasers that get harder as your tab increases.

The Place: 15688 N. Pima Rd., Scottsdale, AZ, 85260

The Time: Every Tuesday, 8 to 10 p.m.

The Cover: Nope.

The Parking: Lot.

The People: Groups of college-aged kids and older regulars sip their rich Irish and German ales and get quizzical in perfect harmony.

The Style: Anything and everything, just as long as it's casual.

What we loved: The difficulty of the quiz questions left most people scratching their heads, but when a team manages to pull together and get a correct answer, a celebration can be heard across the bar.

What we didn't love: The Irish host of the Irish Pub Quiz had a very thick Irish accent that wasn't ideal for announcing questions. It resulted in many requests for repeats and more than one spelling out of a key quiz word.

Are we going back? We're a little skeptical about it, but yes.
