Kate Crowley, the Marketing and Communications Manager at the Heard Museum in Central Phoenix, has a lot on her plate. She keeps media folks well-informed about the cycle of art shows and events at the Heard and is the mastermind behind the third Friday NU (Native + You) monthly evening shindigs.

In her spare time, she's grinding away at ASU Downtown for her MBA.

Working at the Heard everyday, she's developed a unique fashion aesthetic and an obsession with jewelry.

Crowley lives with her husband, Marc, and two pet chickens named Miranda and Mae.

She claims all the M-names were unintentional.

What are you wearing right now?

Purple/grey pants from Target and a black dolman sweater, large silver disc earrings by native jeweler Keri Ataumbi and black leather flip flops. And ray bans. Everyone working in the arts should wear sunglasses all the time, even indoors. It would make us look cool when we talk about art.

What is the last item of clothing you bought?

(interview continues after the jump)

Don't remember. I'm trying to curb my spending and my jewelry habit is more of a compulsion. Something washable, I'm sure.

What is the item of clothing you most covet at the moment?

There are some amazing 4 inch, black leather, wedge shoes by Ash we bought to accessorize a mannequin in our new exhibit.

Give us a childhood memory of you and clothes.

I wore a uniform to school for most of my childhood, but I had a pair of dark cherry red Doc Martens which I wore from 7th through 12th grade. I won "best shoes" in high school as I alternated on "non-uniform" days with a wide array of age inappropriate choices.

Name five items every woman should have in her closet.

*A signature item of jewelry made from silver, gold or steel, worn nearly everyday.
*Black, unadorned, ballet flats.
*A lightweight sweater which can fit in a purse and doesn't look wrinkled when you bunch it in a ball.
*Lots of boots...cowboy boots, riding boots, motorcycle boots. Any boot that begins with an adjective is good.
*Cotton dress in a solid, flattering color.

Name an item of clothing that's best when it's vintage.

Velvet smoking jackets.

Name an item of clothing you should NEVER buy used.

Flip flops.

What is your one piece of fashion advice for Phoenix?

Sunburns are out, self tanner and sunscreen are in.
