If anyone has an argument against a beer celebration, too late: Oktoberfest is here. The traditionally German event celebrates the fall harvest -- beer specifically -- with a 16-day festival honoring this fine beverage. In the United States, the celebrations are shorter-lived, but no less a good time. The Fountain Hills Oktoberfest 2013 features live music with Die echten Waldbuam from Germany’s Black Forest area, a children’s play zone, such tasty food as schweinebraten, würstl, brezeln, knödel, and sauerkraut, and, of course, fine German beer. (Hefeweizen and Marzen are perfect for hot days.) And when someone feels the gemütlichkeit, they’re not after a sneeze blessing. They've become one with the spirit of Oktoberfest. You can, too.

Put on your lederhosen or a dirndl and head out to Fountain Park, 12925 North Saguaro Boulevard, from 5 10 p.m. Friday, September 27. Admission is $5 each, or free if you arrivein traditional dress. Kids 12 and under get in free. Visit www.facebook.com/pages/Fountain-Hills-Oktoberfest/130122787017506.

Fri., Sept. 27, 5-10 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 28, 5-10 p.m., 2013
