Something's brewing in Tempe.

The second annual Beer Olympics, presented by New Times, takes over Tempe Marketplace from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday, August 21. While aspiring champions shouldn't expect an opening ceremony, they should be prepared to face some semi-serious competition.

Here's how it works:

Athletes will face off in a menagerie of games including corn hole, a stationary bike race, giant skee ball, giant Jenga, pong, quarters, croquet, hula-hooping, and putt-putt. All that's in addition to the many arcade pursuits available at Dave and Buster's. None of the games require drinking, and they may be played individually or in teams of four.

As said superjocks make their way through the games, they'll earn stamps on a scorecard. With three stamps, Olympians are entered to win the Triathlon Award. With 10 or more, they can enter to win ultimate Decathlon Award, which includes a free trip to Las Vegas. Additionally, an award will be given to the team with the best costume.

And did we mention The Hourglass Cats will be playing? 'Cause they totally will.

With the cost of general admission, participants receive two drink tickets, unlimited game play at and a $5 gift card to Dave & Buster's, as well as game access and entry to win the Participation Award. How's that for a medal?

Beers from Bud Light and Goose Island will be available during the event, as will cocktails from Pinnacle Vodka and Jim Beam. Local restaurants including Mijana, Mad Greens, and Spinelli's will be on hand with food.

Tickets are $15 per person in advance and $20 the day of the 21-and-over event. Tickets for a four-person team are $70 in advance. For more information and to buy tickets, visit New Times' Beer Olympics online and Ticketfly.
