Stop pissing on our history. That's the basic message behind The Plowshare Group's latest public service announcement. According to a press release issued by the National Landscape Conservation System, there's been a dramatic increase over the past few months in vandalism at various historic sites, including the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas and the Agua Fria National Monument, just north of Phoenix.
The Agua Fria monument is home to thousands of petroglyphs -- images chipped and carved into the rocks by ancient peoples thousands of years ago. Apparently, some jackasses took it upon themselves to spray paint over several panels of petroglyphs. The graffiti was described as "obscenities and a series of faces in the patterns of jack-o-lanterns."
The NLCS hopes the PSA's will raise awareness of the vandalism, and encourage people to visit sites like the Agua Fria National Monument and see what they can do to help conserve historic lands.
