Dubbed the "Safe Spot Skate Spot," the 10,000-square-foot facility (which was funded by a $50,000 donation by Dyrdek to Phoenix's Parks and Recreation Department last year) inside Cesar Chavez Park will open to the public on Saturday, July 16.
The open date coincides with Dyrdek's appearance that same weekend over at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale for the Street League Skateboarding Tour.
The skating plaza was originally conceived as an addition to Margaret T. Hance Park in downtown Phoenix when Dyrdek made his donation last summer. Construction issues with the Arizona Department of Transportation at Hance Park, however, forced the Parks and Recreation Department to move the facility to Cesar Chavez Park in April.
Plans
are still in the works for a skating plaza to eventually be built in
downtown, however, which will be paid for by a second donation by
Dyrdek.
The Safe Spot Skate Spot is located at Cesar Chavez Park, 7858 South 35th Avenue.
