The Scott Pilgrim of Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novel series of the same name is passionate, capable of kicking ass, but a little thick when it comes to being much more than a twenty-something bass player. The Scott Pilgrim of the first trailer for Director Edgar Wright's cinematic adaptation was pretty much just Michael Cera as we've come to know Michael Cera; socially awkward and looking for love as long as he doesn't have to talk too loud to get it.
Thanks to 100,000 Pilgrim devotees who became fans of the film's Facebook page, we finally got to peep a bit more of the film in the second official trailer.
Rest assured that Scott Pilgrim is back on the right track. Check out the trailer for yourself after the jump.
Trailer two puts Scott Pilgrim back on the right track by essentially running us through the events of the first graphic novel, Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life. Pilgrim falls head-over-heals in deep infatuation with Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a delivery girl for Amazon.ca. Matthew Patel (Satya Bhabha), Ramona's oldest flame shows up to fight Scott during a performance of Pilgrim's band (Sex Bob-omb). After the battle, Ramona reveals that for Scott to date her, he must defeat a diabolical league of composed of her seven evil exes.
What follows is an explosive rush of glimpses into the supporting cast including Scott's gay roommate Wallace Wells (Kieran Culkin), Kim Pine (Alison Pill), Stephen Stills (Mark Webber), Knives Chau (Ellen Wong) and the rest of Ramona Flowers' evil exes. Newcomers may find the final minute of footage to be a good excuse to go see the film. Long time Pilgrim fans will find it to be nothing short of sequential crack set to The Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die." Dudes get sliced in half by Scott's flaming sword, vegan super powers are unleashed and even Gideon (Jason Schwartzman), Scott Pilgrim's final boss (or so we think) makes an appearance.
It certainly looks like the film will transcend Michael Cera's tendency to rehash the same character archetype every time he's committed to celluloid, but we won't know for sure until the film hits theaters on August 13. Until then, we'll busy ourselves with watching the second trailer a few hundred more times.
