Looking for something to do this weekend? "Night Owl" is a quick guide to special nights at bars and clubs around town. We'll give you a few hints re: cover, dress code, music and atmosphere. Every Sunday marks Sunday School at The Vig.
Sunday School is in at The Vig. While the afternoon affair skips religion in favor of half-priced vino and the vinyl era tunes of Elvis Before Noon, Arcadia's hippest crowd flocks in to worship its own deities.

The Place: 4041 N. 40th St., Phoenix, AZ 85018
The Time: Every Sunday, 3 - 6 p.m.
The Cover: Zero.
The Parking: A small lot and valet.
The Bar: The Vig's hip and modern decor dominates the bar and continues onto the backyard/patio where Sunday School primarily goes down. Sunday's main draw, even more than Elvis Before Noon, is the all day half-priced wine bottle special. The Vig also offers $3 margaritas and $3 Moretti bottled beers all day.
The Music: Elvis Before Noon brings its classic rock covers and power pop originals to the bar's backyard every Sunday. They've got great song choice and stage presence (minus the stage).
The People: A throng of 30-somethings and those thirsting for another sip of wine.
The Style: This might be just an afternoon affair in Arcadia but those in attendance came dressed in their best.
What we loved: Sunday School doesn't feel so much like Sunday School at all. Think instead: group of kids hanging out after school, sneaking drinks, and listening to their friends cover the likes of The Rolling Stones and Queen.
(We also loved the unexpected presence of bike culture -- there were almost 50 people who chose to sip and cycle.)
What we didn't love: The Vig has valet, but with the size of the parking lot, you have to either pony up or find the nearest street parking. Come to think of it, this could be the reason for so many bicyclists.
Are we going back? Yes, but we hope it's a pinch less popular next time.
