Hungry for some fun and adventure? There's a huge menu of events taking place this weekend, including Cinco de Mayo celebrations, First Friday in downtown Phoenix, and the Cuervo Games in Scottsdale. If you're still starving for shenanigans, we've got five killer events you might be interested in attending.
Next Movement @ The Rogue Bar:
Painting powerhouse Adam "Dumperfoo" Dumper and photographer Sol.Exposure have plenty to celebrate this weekend. Their collaborative "Next Movement" project is finally making its debut later tonight, which means they can give their arms and minds a much needed rest. After the opening reception for the exhibition (which features Sol's photos of The Roots painted over by Dumper) at 5 and 6 Gallery in Scottsdale, the pair is planning on partying with their nearest and dearest at The Rogue. Local DJs Skip Skoolnik and Darrell D. will be spinning a special set of music by The Roots. Drink specials like $2 PBRs will also be on tap. The party starts at 9 p.m. and admission is $5.
Beltane in the Park @ Piestawa Peak Park:
Back in medieval times, ancient pagans marked the sun's midpoint betwixt the spring equinox and summer solstice with a big-time bash in the buff. Local neopagans, however, will be wearing more than just their birthday suits when they celebrate Beltane on Saturday. Namely, they'll be donning big poofy hats and even bigger and poofier hair. This year's edition of the annual rite of spring proises a "holy rollin' tent revival" theme, as well as a traditional pagan ritual and massive potluck lunch. The heathen hijinks start at 9 p.m. and admission is free.
