They offered two such boffo bashes here in the Valley back in 2009, which were fancy fiestas filled with young-and-beautiful types, live art, indie culture, and booze aplenty. Vice is planning another such in Tempe this coming weekend, and -- fittingly enough -- it's a party in celebration of another party (albeit a fictional one). Namely, they're holding a special sneak preview of party-hardy high school flick Project X and planning a killer after-party at a nearby club.
If you haven't seen any of the trailers, commercials, or viral marketing for the soon-to-be-released comedy, it concerns a trio of high school nobodies throwing the ultimate house party of all time in order to increase their popularity and score with the chicas.
Unfortunately, things go awry as an overwhelming mass flocks to their party and trashes the place with drinking, debauchery, and a chaotic maelstrom of illicit activity.
In other words, it sound like the sort of thing you'd read about in the pages of Vice.
A free screening Project X screening will take place on Sunday night at the Harkins Tempe Marketplace 16 theatres. Afterwards, an after-party will commence at the nearby Clubhouse Music Venue, where underground hip-hop artist Pusha T and hipster DJ Jesse Marco will perform. As with their previous two parties, free schwag and giveaways are planned and an open bar will be available. While it probably won't be as raucous at the sort of action depicted in Project X, it should be a fairly major rager.
An RSVP is required for both the screening and the after-party, which can be done via Facebook.
The Project X sneak preview takes place at 8 p.m. at Harkins Tempe Marketplace 16, 2000 East Rio Salado Parkway. The after-party kicks off at 10 p.m. at the Clubhouse Music Venue, 1320 East Broadway Road in Tempe.
